Come join us for morning yoga at 10am and evening yoga at 5:45pm at Awakenings Wellness Center (1016 SW 12th Ave).

This is an all level class. We will be focusing on opening the hips and low back, lengthening the spine, opening the heart, and strengthening the core.

Healthy Dip? Yes, Kale, and you won’t even know it.

Ready to replace the spinach dip and all that other heavy cheese stuff? Replace that with protein and greens: Here’s a kale dip that will knock your socks off. You may never find them again.

Mix all ingredients in a bowl:

1cup finely chopped steamed kale (steam the kale, then squeeze the juice out before you chop it or food process it)

1tbs almond butter

1tsp garlic powder

1 tsp Italian seasoning (or other seasoning of your choice, oregano, thyme, etc…)

6oz Greek yogurt (Low fat Chobani brand works well, and it has lots of protein in it)

Put on crackers (or eat it out of the bowl when no one is looking).

Location: Awakenings Wellness Center 1016 SE 12th Ave Portland OR

Price: 12 classes for $90 when you register in advance, or you can register on the first day of class. Drop in class is $10.


In this class you will be guided through warm ups and learn each pose thoroughly so you can take it home with you. This class is great for those who are new to yoga and those looking to deepen their yoga practice.

In this WisdomRoots Yoga class you will:

  • Loosen and strengthen the hips, lower back, and core, to bring balance and flexibility to the legs.
  • Learn simple breathing techniques to relax the mind and enhance yoga postures.
  • Discover the stretches that are best for your body and create a short set of poses to do at home.
  • Explore different options of the yoga poses. Begin to explore how micro-movements can create the perfect posture for your body.
  • End each class with a relaxation.

Magic in the Rice Maker

Looking for more than brown rice, I ventured into the unknown simple dinner staples that waited on the cupboard…

Ingredients

1/2 cup Quinoa

1/2 cup Brown Rice

2 1/3 cup Water

1/2 tsp garlic powder (or one clove fresh)

1/2 cup Shitake Mushrooms (dried and crushed or fresh and cut to bite size)

2 tsp olive oil

1 Tbsp sesame seeds

Method: Throw it all in the rice cooker, click to cook. Wait. Enjoy. I like it with a dash of soy and sesame oil.
